The Zimology Institute once again proudly presents Zimology In Koncërt. This is the second anniversary of the Zimology Jazz Koncërt (“ZJK”) at the Linder Auditorium, Wits Education Campus, Parktown on Saturday, 18 December 2010. Having been launched last year as the 50^th Birthday Celebration, now we launch the DVD and CD of that event. The ZJK will be an annual event which will culminate into an Avante Garde Festival hosting musicians from its associates such as the Association for the Advancement of Creative Music (“AACM”), The Lincoln Centre, International Society for Improvised Music (“ISIM”) and Vision Festival. The institute will also use this platform for nurturing and featuring local musicians.

This particular Koncërt also celebrates the appointment of Zim Ngqawana as an Advisory Member of the ISIM at its last convention held from the 2^nd to the 5^th December 2010 at the Michigan University.  As always you can expect the innovative Zimology to present cutting edge music which will appear on his forth coming CD release featuring Henry Gimes and Andrew Cyrill recorded live at The Stone Jazz Club in New York, November 2010.     

We look forward to the support of the Friends of Zimology and the public. This year, the Institute offers a special price to students wishing to attend the Koncërt. Tickets for the Koncërt are available through Computicket from R200 – R250 and at the door for R230 but tickets for students will only be available at the door at R120 with proof of Student Card.

Since my last performance at Carnival City with Andreas Vollenweider, the Zimology Vandalizm Series at Gallery Momo, Nirox Foundation, Gauteng, Stellenbosch University and Cape Town City Hall, I have sensed a deep understanding and appreciation of my music from you. I think the time has come to get closer to each other and get an even deeper understanding on the philosophic and the mystical dimension of sound. We plan to achieve this by the way of spiritual gatherings, retreats and social.   Access to this will be gained by membership to the Institute.

Peace

This is the first concert after a long absence from the South African Jazz scene. The personnel is the current SA Quartet featuring Ayanda Sikade on drums, Nduduzo Makhatini on piano, Shane Cooper on contrabass and Zimology on woodwinds and sound modules.

The concert will comprise two sets - the first will comprise of the book that we have been playing over the last decade featuring the classics Qula Kwedini, Ebhofolo, Biological Warfare, San Song to mention a few, with new arrangements whilst the second set will centre towards the forth coming AvantGarde music introducing the new work, “Interpolations on Monk”, recently premiered at the Thelonius Monk 92^nd birthday concert in New York, Oct 2009.  

This concert is going to be recorded live.

Zimology has been active on the New York scene with William Parker, Matthew Shipp, Nasheet Waits and lately Dave Burrell. Three CD’s are forth coming from this unit recorded at the Vision Festival, (New York) Willisau Festival (Switzerland) and Theonius Monk at 92nd Birthday Concert (New York).

Zimology has also been nominated for a University of Yale Fellowship and in January is scheduled to perform at the Knitting Factory at the Winter Fest (New York).
